Antique Bowl, Curly Weave 8 1/2″ diameter

$395.00

This beautiful antique basket is in excellent condition. Circa early 1900’s Northeastern Woodland Native American curly weave basket trimmed with “fancy” ribbon top. This brown ash and sweetgrass bowl is a favorite of collectors and art lovers. Traditional curly weave is interspersed with braided sweetgrass, all tightly woven, in this antique work of art.

The basket has the following repairs: some broken curlicues are replaced; color enhanced to an original tint; torn ribbon top replaced. The basket is now in pristine condition with all professional repairs completed according to the original in context with the time period it was produced – using traditional brown ash. This lovely antique is now structurally reinforced to last for many years of enjoyment.

Although the baskets of this time period were not signed, the style and design of the basket suggest that it may have been made by a Passamaquoddy or Penobscot Maine Indian weaver.
