This beautiful turn-of-the-century all-braided sweetgrass “fancy” basket is reminiscent of the Victorian era. This style of basket was used to store loose stationery in many households during those early years. The condition of the basket is pristine, with no broken weave or braid. No repairs or color corrections were added. It is one of the favorites of that era because of its beauty and utility function.
This heritage basket, made by one of the Northeast Woodland Indian tribes, is woven on very sturdy standards and will grace your home with a patina of antique beauty for many years to come. Although weavers of this early period did not sign their baskets, many Passamaquoddy and Penobsot baskets of Maine were made using this form and style. Size: 6″ Wide x 8″ Long x 1 5/8″ High.
