Sweetgrass “Flat” 4″ Diameter
$185.00
Excellent Condition! No breaks or damage. Northeastern Woodland Native American “flat” basket made in the 20th century by a talented Passamaquoddy weaver. Although it was woven before weavers signed their baskets, it was originally purchased in Castine, Maine in 1965. The Passamaquoddy of Maine often made this “flat” style. Made of brown ash and coastal Maine sweetgrass, it is woven top and bottom of an all-sweetgrass braid. 4″ diameter x one and 1/2″ high. Both top and bottom are woven exactly alike, making this basket strong and durable for frequent use.
The traditional “flats” were a favorite of collectors and were utilitarian in value, as they often held sewing supplies or other home essentials. This basket is in pristine condition for its age, and will become a rare heritage collectible for anyone in the market for a traditional basket! All of the baskets carry the stories of the ancient people of our tribes and help to preserve the tradition of Passamaquoddy culture.
